Dilomet Tablet is a combination medicine used in the treatment of diarrhea. It kills diarrhea-causing bacteria. It also manages the symptoms of diarrhea such as stomach pain, cramps, loose stools and helps in easy passage of gas. Dilomet Tablet is taken with food in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen. Let your healthcare team know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect, or be affected by this medicine. The most common side effects are nausea, dryness in mouth, flatulence, headache, and metallic taste. Most of these are temporary and usually resolve with time. Contact your doctor straight away if you are at all concerned about any of these side effects. This medicine may also cause dizziness and sleepiness, so do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. How it works
Dilomet Tablet is a combination of three medicines: Metronidazole, diloxanide and simethicone. Metronidazole is an antibiotic which kills bacteria and other infectious microorganisms by damaging the DNA. Diloxanide is combined with metronidazole in case of severe intestinal infections. Diloxanide is a luminal amoebicide which acts inside the intestines to kill the infection-causing microorganisms (amoeba). Simethicone is an antifoaming medicine which disintegrates gas bubbles and allows easy passage of gas.
Alcohol
UNSAFE - Consuming alcohol while taking Dilomet Tablet may cause symptoms such as flushing, increased heart beat, nausea, thirst, chest pain and low blood pressure (Disulfiram reaction).
Pregnancy
CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR - Dilomet Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby.
