Gastropan IT Capsule is an oral fixed-dose combination that addresses both the chemical (acid) and mechanical (movement) issues of the digestive system. This formulation is typically prescribed for patients who do not find sufficient relief from acid blockers alone.

Composition and Mechanism: Each tablet or capsule contains of Itopride Hydrochloride and Pantoprazole Sodium. Itopride works by increasing acetylcholine levels, a chemical that triggers muscle contractions in the digestive tract. This helps the stomach move food into the intestines faster and strengthens the valve between the oesophagus and stomach. Pantoprazole works by permanently "shutting down" the acid-producing pumps (proton pumps) in the stomach lining. Together, they ensure that less acid is produced and that the acid that is produced does not remain in the stomach long enough to cause irritation or reflux.

In addition, it can help heal damage in the food pipe (oesophagus) caused by stomach acid. This damage can lead to pain, burning in the chest (heartburn), and discomfort when swallowing.

While acid blockers alone may take time to heal the oesophagus, the addition of Itopride provides immediate comfort by physically moving irritating food and acid out of the stomach. • Caffeine: Can increase acid production and may reduce the effectiveness of Pantoprazole.
• High-Fat Meals: Can significantly delay the absorption of Itopride.

Ketoconazole

Anticholinergics

• Osteoporosis: Long-term use may increase the risk of hip, wrist, or spine fractures.
• Liver Disease: Pantoprazole is processed by the liver; severe disease may require a dose adjustment.
• Parkinson’s Disease: Itopride affects dopamine and should be used cautiously in patients with Parkinson's.

The dosage is determined by a physician based on the severity of your symptoms. Most patients are prescribed one tablet or capsule once daily, taken 30 to 60 minutes before breakfast. In severe cases of motility disorder, a doctor may adjust the frequency.

Because this combination includes a dose of Itopride, it is designed for maximum efficiency in a single daily dose. Do not extend the treatment beyond the prescribed period (usually 4 to 8 weeks) without a medical review. Regular follow-ups ensure that the acid suppression is not causing nutritional deficiencies.
