Leco M 5/10mg Tablet 10s

Leco M 5/10mg Tablet 10s contains Levocetirizine and Montelukast, which are used to manage allergy-related conditions by reducing allergic symptoms and inflammation. Levocetirizine, an antihistamine, helps relieve symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and itching by blocking histamine. Montelukast works by inhibiting leukotrienes and reducing inflammation and airway sensitivity, helping control allergic responses. Together, these medicines provide effective relief from allergic rhinitis and reduce allergy-related breathing discomfort. This combination helps improve overall comfort, makes breathing easier, and minimises the need for multiple medications, offering a convenient and comprehensive approach to managing allergy symptoms.

Detailed Description

Leco M 5/10mg Tablet 10s combines two medicines that work in different ways to manage allergy related symptoms commonly seen during allergic episodes.

Levocetirizine is a highly selective second-generation antihistamine. It works by blocking histamine H1 receptors in the nose, throat, and eyes, preventing histamine from triggering symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, nasal itching, and watery eyes associated with allergic rhinitis and upper respiratory conditions. Due to its low penetration across the blood–brain barrier, Levocetirizine causes significantly less drowsiness than older antihistamines, making it suitable for daytime use.

Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist which helps reduce inflammation, relieve nasal congestion, and improve breathing comfort during allergic reaction. It is particularly effective in managing allergic rhinitis and may also help in conditions with allergy-related cough or mild asthma symptoms, such as wheezing and airway irritation.

This combination is often prescribed for longer durations in patients with persistent or chronic allergic conditions to maintain symptom control and prevent recurrence. Although generally well tolerated, it should be used under medical supervision, particularly in patients with renal impairment (as dose adjustment of Levocetirizine may be required) and in individuals with a history of neuropsychiatric disorders, since Montelukast has been rarely associated with mood or behavioral changes. Patients should be monitored for excessive drowsiness, unusual behavioral changes, or sleep disturbances. Prolonged use should be based on clinical need and regular medical evaluation.

Benefits of Leco M 5/10mg Tablet 10s

  • Dual-Action Anti-Allergic Relief: It Combines antihistaminic (Levocetirizine) and leukotriene receptor blocking (Montelukast) actions to provide comprehensive control of allergic symptoms.
  • Reduces Airway Inflammation: Montelukast decreases leukotriene-mediated inflammation.
  • Non-Sedating Profile: Levocetirizine is generally safe and well tolerated with minimal sedation at recommended doses, making it suitable for daytime use.
  • Suitable for Long-Term Allergy Management: Can be used for extended durations in patients with persistent or recurrent allergic conditions under medical supervision.

Directions for Use

Take Leco M 5/10mg Tablet 10s exactly as prescribed by your doctor or by the product label. It is usually taken once daily, often in the evening, to help control overnight or early‑morning symptoms. Swallow the tablet whole with water, or follow the instructions for the syrup or chewable form. Do not crush or split tablets unless your doctor advises, and avoid alcohol, which can increase drowsiness. Continue using your prescribed inhalers or other asthma medicines even while on Leco M 5/10mg Tablet 10s, unless your doctor says otherwise.

How it works

  • Levocetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine that blocks histamine H1 receptors. Histamine plays a central role in allergic reactions, causing symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itching, and watery eyes. By inhibiting histamine action, levocetirizine effectively relieves these symptoms.
  • Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks leukotrienes—chemical mediators responsible for airway narrowing, inflammation, and swelling in asthma and allergic reactions. By inhibiting these effects, montelukast helps keep the airways more open and reduces inflammation.

Together, these agents provide effective relief from multiple allergic symptoms by targeting different inflammatory pathways, making the combination useful for the management of allergic rhinitis and for supporting long-term control of allergy-associated respiratory symptoms.
