It slows the natural movements of the gut and relaxes the muscles in the stomach and intestines. It also reduces the activity of certain chemicals that causes pain. Inform your doctor if your pain persists or worsens.
The majority of side effects typically do not necessitate medical intervention. and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Meftal-MR Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Mefenamic acid and Tizanidine which relieve abdominal pain. Mefenamic acid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) which works by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers that cause pain and inflammation (redness and swelling). Tizanidine is a muscle relaxant which works by acting on the centers in the brain and spinal cord to relieve the muscle stiffness or spasm.
Alcohol
Unsafe: Avoid consuming alcohol with Meftal-MR Tablet as it is deemed unsafe.
Pregnancy
Seek medical advice from your doctor: Meftal-MR Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Doctor consultation is advised.
Breast feeding
Seek medical advice from your doctor: Meftal-MR Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.
Driving
Not Safe: Meftal-MR Tablet may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
Kidney
Caution Advised: Meftal-MR Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Meftal-MR Tablet may be needed. Doctor consultation is advised.
Liver
Caution Advised: Meftal-MR Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Meftal-MR Tablet may be needed. Doctor consultation is advised. Use of Meftal-MR Tablet is not advised in patients with severe liver disease. Liver function tests are recommended before the start of treatment and then on a regular basis as advised.
If a dose of Meftal-MR Tablet is missed, take it promptly. However, if your next dose is approaching, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Avoid doubling the dose.
Store in a cool and dry place, and keep the temperature below 30�C
You have been prescribed Meftal-MR Tablet to relieve abdominal cramps. It is best to take it when the first sign of pain occurs. Stick to simple meals and avoid spicy rich food in order to avoid feeling sick (nausea). If you get diarrhea while taking this medicine, consult your doctor immediately. Dry mouth may occur as a side effect. Frequent mouth rinses, good oral hygiene, increased water intake and sugarless candy may help. Do not take indigestion remedies (antacids) within two hours of taking Meftal-MR Tablet. If you develop any new symptoms, or if your symptoms get worse, make an appointment to see your doctor for further advice.
