How it works
Nitrofuse Oral Suspension is an antibiotic. It works by killing the bacteria in the urine that causes infection.
UNSAFE - Consuming alcohol while taking Nitrofuse Oral Suspension may cause symptoms such as flushing, increased heart beat, nausea, thirst, chest pain and low blood pressure (Disulfiram reaction).
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED - Nitrofuse Oral Suspension is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
CAUTION - Nitrofuse Oral Suspension should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from her body.
UNSAFE - Nitrofuse Oral Suspension may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
CAUTION - Nitrofuse Oral Suspension should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Nitrofuse Oral Suspension may be needed. Please consult your doctor. Use of Nitrofuse Oral Suspension is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease, who are unable to pass urine or have high creatinine levels.
CAUTION - Nitrofuse Oral Suspension should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Nitrofuse Oral Suspension may be needed. Please consult your doctor. Use of Nitrofuse Oral Suspension is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease and active liver disease.
What if I forget to take it?
If you miss a dose of Nitrofuse Oral Suspension, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
