More About Ezorb D3 Tablet 15s

Detailed Description

Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body, mostly found stored in bones and teeth. It is essential for the strengthening of the skeletal system, nerve transmission, muscle contraction, blood clotting, and hormone secretion. Inadequate dietary calcium forces the body to draw on skeletal stores, gradually weakening bone.

Calcium aspartate is calcium bound to aspartic acid. Organic calcium salts such as calcium aspartate and calcium citrate are generally well absorbed and may be better tolerated than inorganic salts in people with low stomach acid (older adults, those on long-term acid-suppressing medication).

Magnesium is involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions, including energy production, protein synthesis, and bone formation. It is also required for vitamin D activation and for normal calcium handling. Magnesium hydroxide provides elemental magnesium and is widely used in mineral supplements.

Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is the form synthesised in skin upon sunlight exposure and obtained from animal foods. It is converted in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D and then in the kidney to calcitriol, the active hormone that drives intestinal calcium absorption, supports renal calcium reabsorption, and helps regulate bone remodelling. It is a known fact that without adequate vitamin D, calcium supplementation may provide limited benefit.

Together, the three components address common, often co-occurring deficiencies.

Uses of Ezorb D3 Tablet 15s

  • To prevent and manage calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D deficiency.
  • To support nutritional therapy in osteopenia and osteoporosis.
  • To support bone health in postmenopausal women along with lifestyle changes and prescribed treatment.
  • To meet increased mineral and vitamin requirements during pregnancy and lactation.
  • For growth and development support in children and adolescents, under medical guidance.
  • For recovery support after fractures or orthopaedic surgery.

Benefits of Ezorb D3 Tablet 15s

  • Calcium aspartate is generally well absorbed and often well tolerated.
  • Vitamin D3 improves calcium absorption; supplementation with calcium alone may otherwise be inefficient.
  • Magnesium contributes to bone matrix formation and supports vitamin D activation.
  • Convenient single-dose delivery of three commonly co-deficient micronutrients.
  • Generally well tolerated with a long clinical track record for the underlying nutrients.

Side Effects of Ezorb D3 Tablet 15s

Common
  • Constipation, bloating, gas, or mild stomach upset
  • Loose stools (especially from magnesium)
  • Nausea if taken on an empty stomach
Uncommon
  • Loss of appetite
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
Serious side effects requiring immediate attention
  • Hypercalcaemia (high serum calcium), seen with high doses or prolonged use
  • Vitamin D toxicity from chronic high-dose use
  • Kidney stones in those predisposed
  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Hypermagnesaemia (increased magnesium levels in blood) in patients with kidney impairment

Directions for Use

Take Ezorb D3 Tablet 15s orally once or twice daily, with or just after a meal — this improves absorption and reduces stomach upset. Vitamin D3 absorbs better when taken with food containing some fat. Single calcium doses of 500 mg or less are absorbed more efficiently than larger boluses, so splitting daily intake across two meals is helpful when total daily calcium is high. Maintain hydration, and combine the supplement with a balanced diet and regular weight-bearing activity.

How it works

Calcium aspartate releases calcium ions in the gut, where they are absorbed through two routes: an active vitamin D-dependent pathway in the upper small intestine, and a passive paracellular route along the length of the small bowel. Absorbed calcium in the body supports bone mineralisation with the help of osteoblasts (bone-forming cells), and is available for nerve transmission, muscle contraction, blood clotting, and many enzymatic reactions.

Vitamin D3 is first converted in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D and then in the kidney to calcitriol. Calcitriol binds the vitamin D receptor in intestinal cells, switching on calcium-binding proteins (such as calbindin) and channels that significantly enhance active calcium absorption. It also supports renal calcium reabsorption and modulates bone remodelling.

Magnesium plays both a structural role in bone (where about half of the body's magnesium is found) and an enzymatic role. It is required for the activity of many enzymes, including those that activate vitamin D and influence parathyroid hormone secretion. Adequate magnesium status is necessary for normal calcium and vitamin D function, as magnesium deficiency can blunt the response to vitamin D supplementation.

Drug-Food Interaction

  • High-oxalate foods such as spinach and rhubarb (CAUTION): May reduce calcium absorption.
  • Bran and high-phytate foods (CAUTION): May reduce calcium and magnesium absorption.
  • Caffeine and alcohol (CAUTION): Excess increases urinary calcium loss.
  • Foods with healthy fats (BENEFICIAL): Help support vitamin D3 absorption. Take Ezorb D3 Tablet 15s with foods like avocados, fatty fish, nuts (walnuts, almonds), and seeds.

Interactions with Other Drugs

  • Levothyroxine (SEVERE): Calcium and magnesium reduce absorption. Advised to separate the dose by at least 4 hours.
  • Tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones (SEVERE): They bind to calcium and magnesium, reducing their efficacy. Separate both by 2–4 hours.
  • Bisphosphonates (SEVERE): Calcium and magnesium reduce absorption; take the bisphosphonate first thing in the morning and the supplement at least 2 hours later.
  • Iron supplements (CAUTION): Calcium competes with iron absorption. Separate the two by 2 hours.
  • Thiazide diuretics (CAUTION): Reduce calcium excretion, increasing the risk of hypercalcaemia.
  • Digoxin (CAUTION): Hypercalcaemia from over-supplementation increases digoxin toxicity risk.
  • Corticosteroids and orlistat (CAUTION): Reduce calcium and vitamin D absorption.

Drug-Disease Interactions

  • Hypercalcaemia and primary hyperparathyroidism (CONTRAINDICATED): Additional calcium worsens existing hypercalcaemia and increases the risk of arrhythmia, kidney stones, and soft-tissue calcification.
  • Sarcoidosis and other granulomatous diseases (CONTRAINDICATED): Increased risk of vitamin D-induced hypercalcaemia.
  • Vitamin D toxicity (CONTRAINDICATED): Additional vitamin D3 worsens hypercalcaemia and the risk of soft-tissue calcification.
  • History of calcium-based kidney stones (CAUTION): Use only with adequate hydration and dietary review, as there may be a risk of recurrence.
  • Chronic kidney disease (CAUTION): Increased risk of hypercalcaemia, hypermagnesaemia, hyperphosphataemia, and vascular calcification.

Overdose

Acute or chronic overdose can cause hypercalcaemia, which may manifest as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, excessive thirst, increased urination, weakness, confusion, and irregular heartbeat. Overdose of Ezorb D3 Tablet 15s can also result in hypermagnesaemia (high magnesium levels in blood), which presents as muscle weakness, low blood pressure (hypotension), slow heartbeat, and respiratory depression in severe cases. Long-term high-dose vitamin D3 can cause hypervitaminosis D with kidney injury and soft-tissue calcification. Suspected overdose would require medical evaluation with measurement of serum calcium, magnesium, vitamin D, and kidney function.
