Hydrocortisone is a steroid that blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) responsible for making the skin red, swollen, and itchy. Zinc Oxide has astringent and antiseptic properties. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic that works by blocking pain signals from the nerves to the brain, thereby decreasing pain sensation. Allantoin is a skin protectant that moisturizes and softens the skin.
