Bromocriptine is used for female infertility and acromegaly.

How it Works

How Bromocriptine works Bromocriptine is a dopamine receptor agonist. At low doses, it reduces insulin resistance and improves blood sugar control in diabetes mellitus. At higher doses, it treats elevated prolactin levels by decreasing the amount of prolactin in the body, which can help with fertility and menstrual issues. Additionally, it treats acromegaly by lowering the amount of growth hormone in the body.

Side Effects

Common side effects of bromocriptine include nausea, headache, dizziness, fatigue, constipation, nasal inflammation, and weakness.

  • Bromocriptine is used to treat conditions caused by excess production of the natural hormone prolactin, including:
    • Infertility
    • Abnormal production of breast milk (galactorrhoea)
  • It should be taken with or after food to minimize side effects such as:
    • Nausea
