How it Works

How Chlorpheniramine Maleate and Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide work Chlorpheniramine Maleate and Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide is a combination of two medicines that relieve dry cough. Chlorpheniramine Maleate is an antihistamine that helps reduce cough associated with allergies by blocking the effects of the chemical messenger histamine. Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide is a cough suppressant that alleviates cough by reducing the activity of the cough center in the brain.

Common side effects of Chlorpheniramine Maleate and Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide include polyuria, urinary retention, sedation, respiratory disorders, vomiting, high blood pressure, nervousness, tremors, decreased appetite, increased heart rate, dizziness, hallucinations, discomfort when urinating, pale skin, headache, nausea, double vision, heartburn, weakness, diarrhea, arrhythmia (irregular heartbeats), dryness in the mouth, insomnia (difficulty sleeping), and convulsions.
