Chlorthalidone is used for hypertension (high blood pressure), heart failure, kidney stones, and edema. It treats edema (fluid overload) associated with heart, liver, kidney, or lung disease.

How Chlorthalidone works Chlorthalidone is a diuretic that lowers blood pressure by eliminating excess water and specific electrolytes from the body. Over time, it also relaxes blood vessels and enhances blood flow.
