Side Effects
Common side effects of Isoniazid, Rifampicin, Ethambutol, and Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) include nausea, vomiting, rash, fever, dark-colored urine, sweating, increased sputum production, salivation, watery eyes, peripheral neuropathy (tingling and numbness in the feet and hands), increased liver enzymes, jaundice, elevated uric acid levels in the blood, gout, and visual impairment.

- You have been prescribed Isoniazid + Rifampicin + Ethambutol + Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) for the treatment of tuberculosis.
- Take the medication on an empty stomach and preferably at the same time every day.
- Avoid missing a dose, as this increases the risk of the bacteria becoming resistant to the medication and may also heighten the risk of side effects.
- It may cause discoloration of your urine, sweat, saliva, and tears to a reddish/orange color. This is normal and not harmful.
- Your doctor may check your liver function before starting treatment and regularly thereafter.
- Inform your doctor if you notice any of the following symptoms:
- Yellowing of the eyes or skin
- Dark urine
- Stomach pain
- Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Isoniazid + Rifampicin + Ethambutol + Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine), as this may increase the risk of side effects on the liver.
- Use a reliable contraceptive method (such as condoms or a diaphragm) to prevent pregnancy while taking Isoniazid + Rifampicin + Ethambutol + Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine), as it may reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives like the pill.
- Do not take indigestion remedies (antacids) within at least two hours of taking Isoniazid + Rifampicin + Ethambutol + Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine).
- Complete the full course of the medication, even if you feel better, as stopping the course early increases the risk of the infection returning.
