Exemestane is used in the treatment of breast cancer.

How it Works

How Exemestane Works Exemestane is an aromatase inhibitor. It functions by reducing the amount of estrogen, a natural female hormone, produced in the body. This can decrease or halt the growth of certain breast cancer cells that require estrogen for their development.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Exemestane include headache, dizziness, rash, nausea, increased sweating, fracture, vomiting, weakness, abdominal pain, osteoporosis, diarrhea, peripheral edema, insomnia (difficulty sleeping), decreased white blood cell count (lymphocytes), low blood platelets, decreased appetite, depression, carpal tunnel syndrome, paresthesia (tingling or pricking sensation), hot flushes, constipation, urticaria, hair loss, and itching.
