  • Hydroxyprogesterone is used in pregnant women to help reduce the risk of preterm birth.
  • It is indicated only for women who have experienced a preterm delivery in the past.
  • It is not recommended for use in women carrying multiple pregnancies (twins, triplets, etc.).
  • Administration is to be conducted only by or under the immediate supervision of a physician.
  • Your doctor can initiate weekly injections between 16 and 20 weeks of gestation and continue until week 37 or until delivery.
  • Hydroxyprogesterone may influence blood sugar levels; therefore, regular monitoring of blood sugar is advised.
  • Notify your doctor if you experience yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, or abdominal pain, as these may indicate a serious liver condition.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience:
    • Chest, groin, or leg pain
    • Difficulty breathing
    • Sudden severe headache
    • Slurred speech
    • Sudden unexplained shortness of breath
    • Sudden loss of coordination
    • Vision changes
