How Methotrexate and Folic Acid Work Methotrexate and Folic Acid is a combination of two medications: Methotrexate and Folic Acid. Methotrexate is an anticancer and immunosuppressive medication. It works in cancer treatment by slowing the growth of cancer cells by blocking the building blocks that these cells need to grow. In autoimmune diseases, it decreases the activity of the body's immune system, preventing the body from attacking itself. Folic Acid, a form of vitamin B, is added to prevent Folic Acid deficiency caused by Methotrexate.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Methotrexate and Folic Acid include mouth sores, nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, weakness, tiredness, fever, dizziness, decreased white blood cell count, and an increased risk of infection.
