Uses

Octreotide acetate is used in the treatment of acromegaly, carcinoid tumors, and bleeding esophageal varices. It is also utilized to prevent complications following pancreatic surgery.

How it Works

How Octreotide acetate works: Octreotide acetate is similar to somatostatin, a substance normally found in the human body that inhibits the effects of certain hormones, including growth hormone. It also reduces bleeding from the esophagus by constricting (narrowing) the blood vessels.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Octreotide acetate include diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, constipation, flatulence, headache, increased blood glucose levels, gallstones, and injection site reactions.
