Rabies is entirely preventable with proper wound care and the timely administration of the Rabies vaccine along with rabies immunoglobulin (RIG), even after high-risk exposure.

Initial symptoms of rabies resemble flu-like illness, including fever, headache, and discomfort. As the disease progresses, symptoms may escalate to anxiety, confusion, agitation, abnormal behavior, delirium, and hallucinations.
The Rabies vaccine, Human is not recommended for routine use in the general population and should be avoided by individuals who are moderately or severely ill. Consult a doctor if unsure.
Common side effects of the Rabies vaccine, Human include mild soreness and redness at the injection site. Moderate reactions, such as hives, joint pain, and fever, may occur in a small percentage (6%) of patients receiving booster doses.
