Voriconazole is used in the treatment of severe fungal infections.

How it Works

How Voriconazole works Voriconazole is an antifungal medication that kills and inhibits the growth of fungi by destroying their cell membrane, thereby treating your skin infection.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Voriconazole include decreased potassium levels in the blood, increased liver enzymes, skin rash, high blood pressure, increased potassium levels in the blood, gastrointestinal disturbances, visual disturbances, and nosebleeds.

Expert Advice

  • Your doctor has prescribed Voriconazole to treat your infection and alleviate symptoms.
  • Do not skip any doses and complete the full course of treatment, even if you start to feel better.
  • Take Voriconazole one hour before or one hour after a meal.
  • Avoid taking indigestion remedies (antacids) within two hours of taking Voriconazole.
  • Your doctor may check your liver function before starting treatment and regularly thereafter.
  • Inform your doctor if you notice any of the following symptoms:
    • Yellowing of the eyes or skin
    • Dark urine
    • Stomach pain
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Frequently asked questions

Voriconazole is effective when taken at the prescribed dose and duration. Do not discontinue use prematurely, as this may cause symptoms to return or worsen.
Store Voriconazole tablets or liquid at a temperature between 59°F and 86°F (15°C to 30°C). Do not refrigerate or freeze. Discard the liquid form after 14 days, keep it in a tightly closed container, and dispose of any expired medication. Keep Voriconazole out of reach of children to prevent misuse.
Voriconazole is a prescription antifungal medication used to treat serious fungal infections in the blood and body, including aspergillosis, esophageal candidiasis, Scedosporium, Fusarium, and candidemia, in adults and children aged 2 years and older.
Avoid driving or activities requiring concentration while taking Voriconazole, as it may cause vision changes, such as blurring or light sensitivity. Additionally, it can increase sun sensitivity, leading to a higher risk of sunburn; contact your doctor if you experience a sunburn.
Before taking Voriconazole, inform your doctor if you have any allergies to the medication or its ingredients, heart, liver, or kidney issues, or diabetes (as it contains sugar). Also, disclose all other medications you are taking, and notify your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding to avoid potential harm to the baby.
If you miss a dose of Voriconazole, take it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to compensate for the missed one, as this may increase the risk of side effects.
