How Zoledronic acid works Zoledronic acid is a bisphosphonate. It functions by suppressing the activity of osteoclasts, the cells responsible for bone destruction. This action strengthens the bones and reduces the risk of fractures.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Zoledronic acid include headache, diarrhea, joint pain, muscle pain, vomiting, nausea, flu-like symptoms, bone pain, and hypotension (low blood pressure).

  • Your doctor has prescribed Zoledronic acid to strengthen your bones and reduce the risk of fractures.
  • Take it in the morning at least 30 minutes before eating or drinking anything.
  • Maintain an upright posture for 30 minutes after taking the medication to prevent irritation of your esophagus.

  • Your doctor will monitor your response to Zoledronic acid by testing your bone mineral density (BMD), typically every 1-3 years.
  • Do not take this medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • It is important to maintain good oral hygiene while taking this medication.
  • Inform your dentist about your use of Zoledronic acid during your dental visits.
