Uses

Aprepitant is used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy.

How it Works

How Aprepitant Works Aprepitant is an antiemetic medication that functions by blocking the action of a chemical messenger, known as neurokinin, in the brain. This action helps to prevent nausea and vomiting that may occur during anti-cancer treatment, such as chemotherapy.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Aprepitant include hiccups, fatigue, weakness, dehydration, abdominal pain, decreased white blood cell count, diarrhea, dyspepsia, and increased alanine aminotransferase.

Expert Advice

  • Aprepitant helps prevent nausea and vomiting caused by certain chemotherapy medications.
  • It will not be effective if you already have nausea and vomiting.
  • Do not use it continuously for an extended period.
  • It is recommended to take Aprepitant 1 hour before chemotherapy treatment on Day 1.
  • Take Aprepitant in the morning on Days 2 and 3.
  • Aprepitant may affect sperm and could harm the baby if used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
