Isoniazid and Ethambutol are used in the treatment of tuberculosis.

How it Works

How Isoniazid and Ethambutol Work Isoniazid and Ethambutol is a combination of two medicines: isoniazid and ethambutol, which are used to treat tuberculosis. Isoniazid prevents the TB bacteria from forming their protective covering, which kills the bacteria and helps eradicate the infection. Ethambutol, on the other hand, works by slowing the growth of these bacteria.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Isoniazid and Ethambutol include peripheral neuropathy (tingling and numbness in the feet and hands), increased liver enzymes, jaundice, elevated uric acid levels in the blood, gout, and visual impairment.

Expert Advice

  • Isoniazid + Ethambutol should be taken on an empty stomach and at the same time every day.
  • Do not skip any doses; complete the full course of treatment even if you feel better.
  • This medication may cause dizziness.
  • Avoid driving or engaging in activities that require mental focus until you understand how Isoniazid + Ethambutol affects you.
  • It is advisable to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water to mitigate side effects.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol while taking this medication, as it can exacerbate dizziness.
